A down jacket is a necessity for the long bitter cold winters in New England. I thought I had a favorite down jacket until Big Agnes sent us the Hole in the Wall jacket– this down jacket made by a company known for their superior sleeping bags is also water and wind resistant – a feature that makes it unbeatable.
The Big Agnes Hole in the Wall jacket is a mid-weight down jacket with 700 fill power DownTek ™ water repellant down. The nylon rip-stop shell is also wind resistant with draw cords at the hem for a snugger fit. It is built with Insotect ™ Flow vertical baffles which contour to your body to one: provide and more comfortable fit and two: to keep you warmer. There are also Flow Gates ™ to stop the down from shifting to ensure there is insulation coverage throughout the entire jacket even over extensive use.
The jacket has thumb holes at the end of the sleeves making it easy to layer under a waterproof outer layer and preventing a gap at the sleeve when wearing gloves. The Hole in the Wall jacket is great for storing your personal items in the two large zippered hand pockets on the front of the jacket and 2 large mesh pockets located in the interior of the jacket. Another sweet added feature is that the interior zippered chest pocket doubles as a stuff sack allowing you to pack this jacket away to easily fit in a bag for your outdoor adventures.
When Big Agnes sent us the Hole in the Wall jacket I was immediately blown away by how well the jacket fit both over a fleece and under a waterproof shell. Big Agnes used the same technology they use to make their sleeping bags as they did for this Hole in the Wall Jacket and the proof is in how warm I stay when I wear it. When putting on the jacket it feels like you are are slipping into an actual sleeping bag – the trick is not wanting to fall asleep wearing it!
The jacket’s fit enables you to have a large range of motion allowing you to wear it during a multitude of outdoor activities as well as for casual wear. The contour fit at the arms and waist makes the jacket form fitting and not bulky. I wore this jacket on my 20 minute walk to work every day last week through light rain one day and snow the next and delighted in how warm and dry I stayed- big cheers to the mid-weight DownTek ™ water repellant down Big Agnes uses in this jacket!
This is a great mid-weight down jacket perfect for winter wear as well as crisp spring days and cold summer nights that has the extra benefit of being water and wind resistant. At
$219.00 $120-165 [LINK] it has a worthwhile investment for any outdoor enthusiast who wants a down jacket that can withstand the elements. [photos by: gpowersfilm.com]
