Finding a jacket with a perfect blend of durability, light weight and functionality is tricky but the Helium II from Outdoor Research is on it. This jacket comes in at 6.4 ounces of waterproof goodness and packs down the the size of a sandwich. You can bring it along in your backpack for longer hikes or adventures without taking up much weight or space and it’s also plenty light to carry in a hydration pack when heading out for a run in high alpine areas where the weather can sneak up on you.

Made entirely from Pertex Shield+, 2.5 layer, 30 denier, ripstop nylon, the Helium II is meant to last for a long time. However, if something does go wrong, Outdoor Research has you covered with their “Infinite Guarantee” for the life of the product. Some might balk at the $160 price tag but we have got to say that based on just how long this jacket will last, we think that’s a really solid price.

What’s your tipping point for the price of a product and how much does durability and lifespan play into it (microeconomics vs. macroeconomics)? Tell us in the comments!
